Hitler’s plan was a very simple one; take over Europe then the world. By 1939 Hitler had amassed a large army, and air force. Hitler’s strategy was simple he pounded fortified city’s with his superior air force, sent in the artillery, and finally sent in the regular ground troops to clean up any remaining forces.

Hitler knew that all he needed to do to conquer Europe is take England, the only real power at the time. He knew also that they would join the war almost immediately. He didn’t want to divide his forces by fighting on two fronts so he aligned himself with Stalin and Russia to protect his back. Once he conquered the weaker European countries he planned on mobilizing against France and once he had taken that he would move on England. Finally his last real adversary in Europe was Russia, who he didn’t expect to hold out for very long. He then would have conquered all of Europe, and effectively the entire world.

To his enemies he showed no mercy and gave them no quarter. Since he had the complete loyalty of his troops there was really no threat from within, although his paranoia often kicked in and he felt the need to have a commanding officer shot.

The real loss to Hitler’s reign came in two parts. First his loss to the Allies came in Great Britain when his air force was decimated, giving the Allies the new advantage in the air, but he still have the most powerful army in the war. His second and probably most foolish loss was to the “weak” Soviets. He miscalculated terribly and sent his troops into Russia not realizing that they had a great advantage, the winter. Hitler’s men froze to death, food was scarce, and morale was low. After these events the war was not looking so good for the Germans, so Hitler did what he has always done best pass the blame. He blamed the Jewish people and foreigners for the loss and went after them with a renewed passion.

Smart people do dumb things. Napoleon did it as did Hitler. One miscalculation can holocaust concentration camps throw off the whole picture no matter how clear it is. History also does repeat itself. Like a caring mother, it keeps telling us things until we learn.

During Germanys times of financial hardship the people must have been very unhappy with the government. Some Devaluation of the German Mark could have been accepted, but when in nine years it is worth 1/0.000000000001 of its former value it is completely unacceptable.

Who would I blame had I lived at the time? I might blame the Weimar Government. If they had managed the country’s finances with any competence at all there is no way they should have suffered such losses. Did they not understand that you cannot just pump out more money to pay off debt?

The other group one might point a finger at is the Allies. Their financial demands could have had no effect but to cripple the German economy. Had they not forced the government to pay such high reparations for the damages incurred in the war then the economy could have been saved.

Any way you look at it the effect was devastating, and I would be very angry, probably with both parties. Selling family heirlooms is something that no one would enjoy doing, especially when it’s for a basic necessity such as food. Selling off things holocaust timeline that have been in your family for a long time tells us a lot about the desperate situation in Germany at the time, things like this, irreplaceable things, are not things you pawn off because you want money. They are things you sell because you need money.

In desperate situations people do desperate things and under very desperate conditions, such as in Germany at the time I am sure canadian currency there must have been other problems caused by the money problems. Such as violence, crime and suicide, which are things that often accompany hardships, such at those incurred by the Germans at this time.

How ever you look at it Germany at the time is not a place I would like to be. If placed in a situation like this I don’t really know what I’d do, I guess just what ever I had to do to stay afloat in the world.

For:

1) The Allies were more than fair by not taking complete control of Germany and it’s economy

2) The Allies are allowing Germany enough military force to maintain order, and protect the independence of Germany

3) The Allies forced Germany to compensate only civilian damages, not military, as these damages were unreasonable

Against:

1) This treaty effectively cripples the German overseas economy

2) Germany has the right to move supplies between Prussia and Germany without being harassed by Polish forces, inspectors and most importantly taxes holocaust timeline

3) A reduction of military forces gives Germany little sway in economic talks

4) No air force or naval power leaves Germany open to foreign invasion, and it will cost money to get rid of these forces

5) The allies will discuss compensation levels, Germany will not represent itself

1) Victory before September 1918 was still possible for the Germans in World War I

2) The German Government was still attempting to implement a “Revolution from Above”

3) Germany could have improved it’s position in the war making negotiations more fair for the people of Germany

4) It was a deemed a “necessary risk” at the time by the German government

Against:

1) The German government waited too long, effectively killing the economy of Germany

2) The German government waited until they had to surrender, not until it was in the best interest of Germany to do so

3) If the German government had entered negotiations earlier they could have received a better deal from the Allies
