Dear Mom,

Things here in Germany are growing worse by the day.  The Nazi’s hate propaganda, and meaningless acts of violence are horrifying, and what’s worse, their ranks are swelling steadily by the day.

Today I witnessed a speech by a man by the name of Hitler.  It was truly horrifying.  There were thousands of people congregating and so I decided I’d go see just what was happening.  As it turns out I had stumbled in on a Nazi rally, where the man I mentioned, Hitler, was going to speak.  At first it was fairly peaceful.  Hitler spoke some on his 25-point program. Hitler was excited about the beginning of World War I.  He believed that Germany was superior to other European nations, and probably saw it as their right to control them.  He was very patriotic and because of this he saw the war as a great opportunity.

During the war Hitler seemed to still strongly believe in the cause, although his sprits were as dampened as his boots.  He didn’t find it enjoyable or fun, merely something that had to be done.  He writes of the miserable conditions but doesn’t seem to really complain about them.  I think this is because of his patriotism. During Germanys times of financial hardship the people must have been very unhappy with the government. Some Devaluation of the German Mark could have been accepted, but when in nine years it is worth 1/0.000000000001 of its former value it is completely unacceptable.

Who would I blame had I lived at the time? I might blame the Weimar Government. If they had managed the country’s finances with any competence at all there is no way they should have suffered such losses. Did they not understand that you cannot just pump out more money to pay off debt? Read more

For:

1) The Allies were more than fair by not taking complete control of Germany and it’s economy

2) The Allies are allowing Germany enough military force to maintain order, and protect the independence of Germany

3) The Allies forced Germany to compensate only civilian damages, not military, as these damages were unreasonable Read more

For:
1) Victory before September 1918 was still possible for the Germans in World War I

2) The German Government was still attempting to implement a “Revolution from Above”

3) Germany could have improved it’s position in the war making negotiations more fair for the people of Germany Read more
