Why the German People Complied with the Nazis

Why did so many Germans go along with the Nazis? What choice did they have?
Men in the factories could refuse to pledge allegiance and then they would lose their jobs and their families would starve, or they could be “good Germans” and keep their jobs, at the cost of their integrity. When weighed integrity against your family your integrity has little meaning. Sure there was a possibility that others would stand with you but who is willing to risk their life thinking that maybe someone else will risk theirs along with you. Read more
The Ambassador’s Great Mistake

Fear, was a great tool in Hitler’s arsenal. Really he had no need to kill very many people. Everyone knew he would, and so they didn’t try to stab him in the back. When Hitler saw someone that he was even suspicious of he would simply have them killed. If they disagreed with any of his ideas he’d have them killed. If he thought they were plotting against him, you guessed it. They were killed
People outside his party he dealt with accordingly. He wasn’t stupid, and knew he couldn’t just go around killing everyone, so I would expect he had less upfront ways, not necessarily any nicer, but different. Read more
Propaganda and the Holocaust

Propaganda was probably the most widely used tool of the Nazi party. They brainwashed people with their messages. They said things so many times that people began to believe them, and people wanted to believe them. Why wouldn’t they? The Nazis were promising everything good, and asking very little in return. All they were asking was for the support of the German people in their campaign against the evil Jewish people and foreigners. This wasn’t a really big thing to ask either, since the Europeans had never had a very favorable impression of the Jewish people in the first place.
The Nazis were very modern with their use of the media in that they used radio, posters, and used planes to transport their message. These new methods appealed to people, as they hadn’t been used a lot before this. These also appealed especially to the youth because of the modern forums that the Nazi’s techniques were taking. Policies of the Nazi Party

The policies of the Nazis were designed to help them maintain control over Germany. There are really two types of policies; your place in the nation, and absolute power.
First your place in the nation. The Nazis made it clear that men needed to work and fight for the glory of Germany. If you weren’t in the army, then you should be in a factory slaving away. You should do both things to the best of your ability, and strive to be better at all things you do. Since the men all weighed their honor on their contribution to their country they did this.
Women were told that their place was to serve men and make babies. The Germans supported the stereotypical housewife, with many children, a neat house, and dinner ready for her husband when he got home from work. Read more
How Hitler Took Power

Hitler has full power. How could this happen? What lead to his appointment to almost supreme power in the government? What increased his popularity so much over such a short time?
Its simple really, but there were a few contributing factors. First he eliminated other governments. Of course you have power, popularity, and other things when there is no one to challenge the things you do. Hitler successfully achieved this, and I have no idea what lead the other government groups to forfeit their power without so much as a second thought. I suppose fear is a great motivator. Read more
The Effects of WWI on the Nazi Campaign

Many of the people alive at this time had lived through the First World War, and I would certainly bring this as a message. Hitler was not seen as a peacemaker, he was the tough guy on the block. No one wanted another war; they had their fill some years ago.
Another front the Nazi’s would have to be criticized on is their most powerful tool, Hitler. He’s not a German. By his own teachings he’s not as good as us, he’s of the weaker people. How can he be trusted? He doesn’t have our best interests in mind. How could they deny this? Really no one could. In a struggle to keep Hitler from power it would turn into a vicious mudslinging campaign, and in his mental state I have no doubts he would retaliate showing the people what he’s really about. What would he do, send in the storm troopers? That would remind people of the war and re-emphasize my first point of how Hitler is nothing but a warlord. Read more
How the Germans Fell Into the Nazi Trap

During the depression the rich were poor, and the poor were really poor. Where was there to go except up? Why were people willing to join the Nazi party? There are really two main reasons.
First of all they wanted to believe that the Nazis could help. They said sure the Nazis can create financial balance. Sure they can make everyone happy. Sure, it is the Jewish people faults we’re all broke. Why wouldn’t they believe it? They were completely surrounded by Nazi propaganda.
Secondly it was the man behind, and in front of the Nazi party, Hitler. He was a great public speaker, convincing people of his views. He was like a charismatic, religious figure; whatever he says must be true. How could it not be? He had a hypnotizing aura about him. He was one of those natural leaders who people instinctively follow because they see him as strong. Read more
Hitler’s Positive Traits

If nothing else Hitler was a great politician. He blamed everyone else, quite convincingly I might add. He could do no wrong. If something he planned went wrong then someone screwed it up, probably the Jewish people. If someone else screwed something up it was their fault and they were a Jew sympathizer. This is what happened in 1930’s during the depression. It was the Jew loving Americans at fault, not the Germans, when truly it was just as much his fault as anyone’s.
Through the depression Hitler just did what politicians do best. He told people what they wanted to hear. If you were a farmer, you were doing a great service to your country. If you were a worker, how marvelous your part in the shaping of Germany was, and the only thing standing between you and riches was the government. To the rich he promised more riches, to the hungry food, and so on. Read more
My Random Thoughts on Hitler, the Nazis, and the Holocaust

I think the Nazi’s in general are awful people. They are racist. The only thing they seem non-discriminate in is their hate for foreigners. No matter where you are from they think you are weak unless you are from pure German blood. The only people they hate more than foreigners are the Jewish people, and why do they hate them? No reason really. It’s just their roots telling them it’s all right to not like the Jewish people. Then Hitler sweeps in tells them it is proper to hate the Jewish people, with no better explanation than some obviously false hate propaganda. When it comes down to it the Nazi’s were just straight up not nice people. What person in good conscience could attack someone for no reason other than their ethnicity or religious preference? They really are just a bunch of people who dug themselves into a hole and don’t want to take responsibility for it, thus placing it on the shoulders of someone weaker. Read more
If I was There - Letter to Mom

Dear Mom,
Things here in Germany are growing worse by the day. The Nazi’s hate propaganda, and meaningless acts of violence are horrifying, and what’s worse, their ranks are swelling steadily by the day.
Today I witnessed a speech by a man by the name of Hitler. It was truly horrifying. There were thousands of people congregating and so I decided I’d go see just what was happening. As it turns out I had stumbled in on a Nazi rally, where the man I mentioned, Hitler, was going to speak. At first it was fairly peaceful. Hitler spoke some on his 25-point program. Read more
